According to multiple reports, Tigers star cornerback Tyrann Mathieu has been dismissed from LSU. Mathieu was one of the top returning players on an LSU team that seemed poised to be one of the top teams in the nation. After losing Morris Claiborne to the NFL, Mathieu was projected to be the Tigers number one cornerback.
Nicknamed the honey badger by fans, Mathieu was one of the most popular players in the nation last year and was a finalist for the Heisman. He returned two punts for touchdown, forced six fumbles, and made countless other big plays for a Tiger squad that was number one in the country for most of the year.
Said LSU head coach Les Miles: “We will miss this guy. The football team’s got to go on. We’ll have to fill the void.” To be sure, it is a large void to fill but with LSU’s recruiting, another top player will take over Mathieu’s spot in no time. Despite this loss, I would still put LSU at number three in the country behind USC and Alabama.
