If I were to look back to just before the Playoffs, never in a million years would I have predicted an 8th seed Kings to make a run like they have done. Knocking off the 1,2 and 3 seeds in the west, in order, and only losing two games so far these playoffs. They’ve also received all the bandwagon fans from around the world, and it seems like just about everyone has apparently forseen this unbelievable run.
Midseason, they were far under .500 and had coaching changes, bringing in Darryl Sutter in place of Terry Murray. Replacing a passive defense with a fast offense. At the trade deadline, there were many rumors involving Dustin Brown, who has happened to be one of the Kings best forwards in the playoffs.
Regardless, Sutter appeared to be the piece they needed, leading the Kings with a 25-13-11 record to scrape their way into the playoffs. Now, they have tied the record to reach the finals in just 14 games. They are also the first 8th seed to make the finals since the Oilers in 2006.
In just a few days, possibly tonight, they will learn whether they will face Lundqvist and the Rangers, or Brodeur and the Devils. While the Kings are waiting, let’s watch the NHL Video recap of their playoff run thus far.
