Felix Hernandez threw a perfect game earlier today at Safeco Field. He blanked the Rays for all nine innings, and he made it look easy with 12 strikeouts in the game.
This is the fourth time in the last four seasons that the Rays have been no hit, and three of those no hitters have been perfect games. Hernandez struck out two batters in the ninth inning, and he also got a softly hit ground ball to the shortstop. He was dominant all day, obviously, and he proved once again to the league why he shouldn’t be traded away from Seattle.
Fans in Seattle have something too root for and a reason to go to the ball park every fifth day because of King Felix, and as long as they don’t receive a massive offer full of major league young studs, Hernandez will likely not be going anywhere for a long time. Back to the game, though, Hernandez made it through the entire game with only 113 pitches and he made Rays hitters look bad. The Rays have been a struggling offensive team all season long, but Felix probably could have no hit most teams on a day like today where every pitch he wanted to throw he threw it better than the last time he threw it.
The next time Hernandez pitches will be one of the most look forwarded starts all season for Seattle fans, but that’s not that much different from any other start by Felix Hernandez.
