In America’s biggest city, comes America’s biggest sports debate. Tebow or Sanchez, that is the question. On one hand you have Mark Sanchez, former rookie star, who has regressed since his sophomore season. Oh yeah, and he’s making $10 million a year. Then there’s Tim Tebow. They said he couldn’t win in college. NCAA Football Champ. They said he couldn’t win in the NFL. Goes 7-4 with Broncos. And they said he couldn’t win in the playoffs. Beats the Pittsburg Steelers in his first career playoff game. Now all the same critics are saying he can’t take over for Sanchez in NY. He’s used to defying odds, but will he be able to do it this time? Read the debate, and decide for yourself.

And once you’ve made that decision, please vote on the poll below the article for whoever’s side of the argument you agree with. The writer that gets the most views in the debate get’s $5, so make sure you vote wisely!

As we approach the beginning of this year’s NFL season, a big debate involving the New York Jets is in play. This debate is: Who will win more games for the New York Jets: Mark Sanchez or Tim Tebow? During this offseason the New York Jets signed Mark Sanchez to a long-term deal, and then traded for Tim Tebow when the Broncos singed Peyton Manning. There are different perspectives in this debate, but my vote is for Mark Sanchez. Here is why Mark Sanchez will win more games than Tim Tebow:

Starting Jobs:

The organization has been adamant since day one that Mark Sanchez is the starter and Tim Tebow is the be his backup. Tim Tebow will be used as a change of pace option at quarterback, mostly being used for the wildcat formation. In this role, Tebow will likely score a few times, but do not expect his presence to cause the Jets win more than Sanchez. With Tebow, the Jets are looking to replace Brad Smith and while Smith was effective for the Jets in that role, he only scored two touchdowns. Expect a similar output from Tim Tebow. If the Jets are to be successful this season, they will need significantly more output from Mark Sanchez.

Playing in the Pros:

In three NFL seasons, Mark Sanchez has amassed a record of 31-22 and 4-2 in the postseason. As for Tim Tebow, he is only 8-6 as a starter, and is 1-1 in the postseason thanks to a ‘Tebow Miracle’. Obviously this shows Sanchez has had more success in the NFL than Tim Tebow, and will contribute way more than Tim Tebow will. It is true that Mark Sanchez commits too many turnovers, but look at Brett Farve, who is the all-time leader in interceptions and is also one of the top quarterbacks of all time. With a new offensive coordinator in Tony Sparano, expect Sanchez to bounce back from a mediocre year and help the Jets return to being a playoff contender.

Statistics:

Statistics instantly show Mark Sanchez has the upper hand over Tim Tebow. Overall Sanchez has a better W-L record than Tim Tebow, including a better postseason. The New York Jets playoff chances are about 14% more likely with Sanchez starting over Tebow. While Tebow has an advantage has an advantage in the run game, Mark Sanchez is also a mobile quarterback. Tim Tebow has tallied up 12 rushing touchdowns in two seasons; while Mark Sanchez has amassed 12 rushing touchdowns is three seasons. Mark Sanchez has the edge on mostly all of the other quarterback statistics and made plays when the Jets really needed it. For example, Sanchez has helped lead a big comeback against the Texans with less than a minute left. And he has led his team to the AFC Championship twice. Statistics prove Sanchez will have a way better season, and will contribute way more than Tebow can.

Overview:

Many people are so worried that Tebow will take over the quarterback position for the Jets, that they forget why he was brought in. His role is to open up opportunities for Mark Sanchez and the offense. Sanchez is the starter and getting out from Tannenbaum’s dreadful offensive schemes will help him to be a more successful quarterback. So expect Sanchez to win more and keep his starting role over Tebow. [/one_half]

Hmm, Tebow or Sanchez, that is the question. Who is a better quarterback? Luckily, I don’t have to answer that in this debate. Who will win more games for the Jets this season? Easy, Tim Tebow.

Tim Tebow is probably the worst passing starting quarterback in the history of good passing quarterbacks. However, if he’s not down fifty points, he seems to always be able to make safe plays to keep his team in the game and than make the best throw available for him when the game is on the line. It doesn’t seem right for him to do that considering how bad he seems to be, but it’s what he’s done in every close game he’s played in (and the Jets defense will be as tough as the Broncos defense was last year in most games).

However, I’m not going to explain why Tebow is a better quarterback than Sanchez, therefore the Jets will win more games. That probably is not true because even Blaine Gabbert is a better passing quarterback than Tebow. My thought on Tebow winning more games has more to do with the Jets and the situation I see them being in next season. They didn’t trade for Tebow for nothing. While many people don’t get the move or agree with it, but that’s what the Jets decided to do so they must like Tebow at some level. Before we go on, let’s define what it means to “win more games” next year. Does Tebow have to start the game to win it more than Sanchez did? Tebow has been rumored to be the Jets red zone quarterback for the 2012 season. Red zone quarterback? Seriously?

If that is the case, the Jets do not trust that Sanchez will be able to cash in in the recline more than Tebow. They think that Sanchez can get the ball into the red zone because every quarterback does that at some point during games (even Blaine Gabbert did that last year on occasion). But if they pull Sanchez inside the twenty and Tebow comes in and scores a touchdown (throwing or running), then who is more responsible for the points? The player who scored, or the player who got into scoring position only to be pulled because his coaches didn’t think he could finish the job? I’d go with the player who scored.

So even in the games that Sanchez starts and wins, it’s possible that the “win” could go to Tebow if he scored all three touchdowns in a 24-17 win. However, this isn’t a cop out. There’s a great chance that Tebow indeeds starts more wins then Sanchez this year.

I don’t think the Jets will that successful this year. There’s so many distractions and questions off the field for the Jets that I think with a lack of any consistent and quality quarterback play (including Tebow) will just do the Jets in, where as the Saints have Drew Brees to help them in their distraction filled season. If the Jets are a big disappointment like I think they will be and start the season with a record like 1-4 or 2-6, then fans will likely be calling for Tebow. And not without reason. The Jets would be outside the playoff picture and the fans might as well gets some entertainment with Tebow instead of Sanchez. Then, almost by default, Tebow gets more wins just like he got more than Kyle Orton last year.
