The college football season is right around the corner with games starting up in just under two weeks. So it’s once agains that time where the predictions are to be made about every conference championship game and winner. And the all important indivuidual award, the Heisman trophy.
**Winners of conference will be italiized**
ACC:Florida State Seminoles vs.Virginia Tech Hokies
Ever since I have been an avid college football fan, I can’t remember the last time Virginia Tech wasn’t in the ACC championship game. This year is no different with quarterback Logan Thomas at the helm, VaTech always seems to put out a good team every year that competes for the ACC title. Florida State had high expectations last year and totally failed. With one more year of experience under their belt, quarterback E.J. Manuel and quite possibly the nation’s fastest defense and a preferably easy schedule, watch of for the Noles this season. Sleeper Team: Clemson Tigers
Big 12: Oklahoma Sooners
The Big 12 has been steadily on the decline seemingly every year since the start of this new super conference idea took shape. The Sooners always go into the season with high expectations of not only winning the Big 12, but the National championship as well. With quarterback Landry Jones back at the helm once again, I dont see any reason why the Sooners are not in the picture come late in the season. Sleeper Team: Texas Longhorns
Big East: South Florida Bulls
The same about the Big 12 can be said about the Big East. Has “big” in the name, but hasn’t really done much of anyting. Now that West Virginia is out of the conference, the conference is basically wide open. You’ll probaly see a team that is underserving getting a BCS automatic qualifier bid because their in the Big East. That’s why I’m giving the nod to the South Florida Bulls. They have one of the more experienced teams in the conference, with a dual threat quarterback in B.J. Daniels. Sleeper Team: Syracuse Orange
Big Ten: Wisconsin Badgers vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers
The Big Ten quite possibly is the second strongest conference in the nation right behind the dominant SEC. So first off, Wisconsin is pretty much a lock for the Big Ten championship game because all their division! They have Penn State (not eligible), Ohio State (not eligible) and then they have Purdue, Illinios and Indiana. No offense, but I dont see any of those three schools that are eligible being able to take down Wisconsin. For Nebraska, the defense this year may be on the down word than it was last year but the offense contains quarterback Taylor Maritnez and running back/ do everything player Rex Burkhead. A lot of people are taking Michigan, but I dont see Denard Robinson lasting a whole year the way he plays and their defense isn’t as strong as people think. Sleeper Team: Iowa Hawkeyes
Pac-12: Oregon Ducks vs. USC Trojans
Last year the PAC-12 was full of talent, this year however, there are really only these two teams that reign supreme. USC has alot of hype surronding them with the team finally being bowl eligible, many a feeling that they can win a national championship. Though the offense is stacked, the defense is where they may be in trouble. I dont think the USC defense can stop the potent high-flying offense of the Oregon Ducks. Though Oregon may not have all of the name power as it did last year. The Ducks offense still goes faster than the speed of light and that’s tough on any defense.Sleeper Team: Washington Huskies
SEC: Georgia Bulldogs vs. Arkansas Razorbacks
The most dominant conferene will yet again reign supreme throughout the college football world. The Bulldogs have one of the more easier tracks to the championship game in the SEC, which is saying something by the way. I think Alabama, will not be the same without their stellar defense from last year, and the offense will be able to pass, but ultimately no running game. I didn’t believe in LSU, even before they lost the honey badger because they don’t have a strong enought quarterback. Look for Arkansas and quarterback Tyler Wilson to make it throught the SEC West and into the SEC championship game. Sleeper Team: Florida Gators (national championship sleeper pick!)
